Carving tools

I haven't done much lately due to work commitments ,
but I have been playing with some little
carving knives and spoon carvers
This is the first attempt at a spoon carver , using an old piece of hedge cutter blade chisel ground and then bent around a piece of pipe
The handle is stinkwood

This is my second go. The blade is hedge cutter blade again , but thinned down to 9 mm wide
the handle is panga panga with brass pins
The handle is finished with super glue and polished with autosol

This is a little carving knife made from an off cut of 3mm 01 tool steel
the handle is yellow wood and panga panga finished with danish oil

they should make a nice little set

I have been a bit lazy

I have made a few knives but haven't posted any pictures in a while ,So here's what I have made since my last post
Bushy with padauk scales and black liners

This is my take on a Boker subcom with hessian micarta

This is a sort of a tactical bushy with black hessian micarta scales and orange liners

a strange warnie with blue cotton micarta made from a duvet cover

A small skinner with scales made from 'femo' polymer clay. I don't know how the clay will hold up under normal use , so it's a bit of an experiment

Steampunk MK2

I finished off this little one this week .It's made from a scrap of 3mm o1 steel , copper pipe 17 brass pins and some black liners

It is 130mm long with a 55mm blade and a bit of simple file work on the spine .

Just an 'arty ' photo cos I can

The sheath is Kydex with a few copper bands and brass pins .
The chain is a bit of over sized bath chain

I hope you like it and thanks for looking

the hessian slicer

I finished this one last night , although I might sand the handle a bit more.
It is flat ground with a very fine edge , so a slicer not a chopper

A strategic photo that doesn't show the scratches on the blade

Tapered tang , with a slight 'coke bottle handle'

Thank you for looking all comments are welcome

Two I am busy with

I started these two a few weeks ago but then got sidetracked .They are both 250mm long and 4mm thick

The tangs have both been tapered down to 2mm .
this is a picture of the flat ground blade showing the distal taper

Just a picture of the 'bushy' with a scandi grind . I do put a micro bevel on after heat treatment

Both survived heat treatment , now lots of hand rubbing

This is where I got sidetracked ...........

I moulded some hessian 'micarta ' around the tang today , but I think they might be a bit on the thin side . I might add a few more layers to thicken them up

My second tapered tang

This is my second tapered tang and
also the biggest knife I have made so far.
4mm 01 with wenge scales and brass pins and tube,
the wood the scales comes from Isca Woodcrafts .

total length is 270mm ,140mm blade .
the blade has a full flat grind and is hand rubbed to 400 grit

This is the second knife made on my new grinder .
It is also my first tapered tang
 Overall length    225mm
  blade length      100mm
  Panga panga scales
  brass pins and tube
I left the blade with a belt finish . ground to 400 grit and then just cleaned up with a bit of autosol

Steampunk neck knife

This is the first complete knife since getting the new toy . I have tried a few new (to me) ideas and materials . The bevels were ground to 400 grit and then polished . The scale has been left on the flat parts of the blade

the handle scales are made up of some copper pipe and vulcanised fiber liners , glued together and then pinned with brass pins

I might give it a soak in a cup of coffee to age it a bit and give the blade a bit of a patina

A new toy

I received my new grinder last weekend . It was built by 'Aly' (a British blades forum member)
It uses 1050 x 50 belts and has a 1.5 Hp motor

Here are the first 3 blades

this is just a picture of  the large blade with a 400 grit belt finish. I should be putting some handles on these this week

A bit of a bushy part 2

I got the sheath made up for this one last night
I haven't been able to get hold of a 'Tek-lok' so I made some kydex belt loops
Now just a bit of 'manknitting ' to brighten it up
